Our Students

Over 97% of the students enrolled in S.T.A.R.S. are African American. All the students attend CMS schools and most are enrolled in F.O.C.U.S. (Finding Opportunities; Creating Unparalleled Success) schools, which are identified by the District as needing additional resources to support student achievement. Most of the students live below the poverty level in singleā€parent households and struggle with Hyperactivity Disorder, academic underperformance, poor peer relations, high rates of unexcused absences and grade retention.
