The S.T.A.R.S. Math & English Academy English curriculum is based on helping students become more versatile and active readers. We place a premium on not only showing students how to navigate a text, but also instilling in them the ability to understand an author’s meaning, anticipate the author’s message, recognize slang, and employ other active reading processes. We aim to create agile readers that can navigate various forms of literature and manage longer literary works. Poetry, writing, and public speaking lessons are used to supplement and reinforce reading lessons.
